About

Brave Sound Productions is a NYC-based music and video production studio.

Our mission is to preserve, give platform to, and foster community around NYC’s creative and improvised music scene. To this end, we curate and produce high-quality music videos and provide NYC improvising artists with all the tools they need to preserve and present their music. As NYC venues continue to dwindle and online music distribution displaces our stages, we are here to help our community continue to create collaborative, real-time improvisation in ways that are cost-effective, competitive, and distributable in our modern times.

Impassioned by both “art for arts sake” as well as art for the issues we face, Austin’s music, visual works, and writings pursue aesthetic beauty and explore themes of empathy, minimalism, mindfulness, and meaning. His artistic sensibilities are rooted in the art of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Lee Konitz and further developed through mentorship from Jaleel Shaw, Stefon Harris, Marc Cary, George Garzone, and Wynton Marsalis.

In addition to his work at Brave Sound, you can find Mike behind the drum at notable NYC venues including Dizzy’s Club, Kitano Jazz, Tomi Jazz and the 55 Bar. In 2019, Michael also was chosen by Jazz at Lincoln Center to share the stage with Erica Von Kleist in Whitefish, Montana for a MLK memorial concert, in which he had the opportunity to work with high school students in her program as well as perform alongside her in a state-wide broadcasted radio performance.
